Fadama 111: 15 Rivers LGAs Share N350m
A total of fifteen local government council areas of Rivers State has benefited from the Rivers State Fadama III project for Fadama users co-operatives (FUGs) and Fadama Community Associations (FCAs) under the National Fadama Development Project, a World Bank assisted programme.
According to a release from the Rivers State Coordination office made available to our correspondent in Port Harcourt, a breakdown of the figure shows that Oyigbo local government area had the highest amount of N58,785,890 closely followed by Gokana with a total of N55,092,326.
Emohua had N44,478,300 with Ikwerre N40,645,960 and Omuma N26,482,720 to come 3rd, 4th and fifth respectively.
The sum N24,910,115 went to Etche, Ahoada West N23,804,898, Eleme, N16,872,060 and Degema N15,728,571.
Other LGAs that benefitted include Ahoada East N13,164,600, Khana N10,798,750, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni N5,945,940, Akuku Toru was disbursed with the sum of N7,531,806, Okrika N3,163,940 and Obio/Akpor N2,805,528.
According to the release, the Fadama III project which is a Federal Government /World Bank assisted project adopts the Community Driven Development Approach (CDD).
The projects, expected to be implemented in all states of the federation that qualify would be carried out in twenty LGAs of each state.
It would also be implemented in 10 communities of each LGA with the project life running for a period of five years (2008-2013).

FG, Ogun Distribute Inputs To 2,400 Farmers
Federal Government and the Ogun State Government, on Wednesday, distributed farm inputs to farmers as part of effort to address food security challenge.
The State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Toyin Ayo-Ajayi, during the flag-off ceremony of Inputs Redemption Under The National Agricultural Growth Scheme-Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP), in Ogun State, disclosed that beneficiaries of the gesture were primarily rice, maize and cassava farmers across the State.
Ayo-Ajayi commended the Ogun State Government for partnering with the government at the centre for the effort in supporting farmers with inputs that would bring about yieldings for local consumption and likely exportation.
She noted that government is supporting rice, cassava and maize farmers with inputs worth N212,000; N189,000 and N186,000 respectively.
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Kehinde Jokotoye, who represented the Commissioner in the Ministry, Bolu Owotomo, stated that traditional farmers are critical in food production, hence the need to encourage and support them with inputs that would bring about desired results during harvesting.
Owotomo said: “Let us make good use of this opportunity, so that the success of this phase will make farmers benefit more from the state and federal governments of Nigeria.”
Earlier, State Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Oluwatoyin Ayo-Ajayi, appreciated the present administration for partnering with the federal government for the initiative, adding that the programme is designed to support farmers at the grassroots level in cassava, rice and maize with inputs such as, seeds, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, to boost their production and enhance their livelihood.
