Semenitari, Others Licensed As Lay-Readers
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari and 34 others have been licensed as Lay-Readers of the Diocese of Evo Church of Nigeria of the Anglican Communion.
The ceremony which was performed by the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Innocent V. Ordu also coincided with the commissioning and dedication of Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church Cathedral, Eliogbolo, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government area.
Bishop Ordu urged the Lay Readers to see the new status as a call to render service to God and humanity.
The Bishop who took his scripture from the Bible book of Ephesians 4 said that Christianity is an all embracing religion as it entails collective service in the vineyard of God.
He said that God expects His children to use both their individual and collective talents for the good of the church, adding “God enjoys our distinctiveness, God at the sometime expects us to pool our unique nature together for the overall good of the Church”.
Bishop Ordu charged the new lay-readers not to use their new position to destroy the Church.
Meanwhile, the Diocese of Evo says Anglican Churches both in Africa and Nigeria are not ready to compromise the issue of gay marriage and bestiality.
Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Innocent Ordu said that such practices are against God and humanity and enjoined those in the Church and partakers of such practices to desist, stressing that it is the duty of the Church to preach against it.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari described her new status as a call to service.
Mrs. Semenitari also said that the situation is a challenge to all of them to give their best to the service of God.
