Amaechi Flags Off Town Hall Meeting, Oct.11
Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi will commence another phase of town hall meetings and tour of the 23 Local Government Areas on the 11th of October, the Chief of Staff Government House, Chief Tony Okocha has announced.
He gave the hint during a meeting with Local Council Chairmen in preparation of the exercise yesterday in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Chief Okocha charged the council charimen to take steps to mobilise their communities to fully participate in the exercise to ensure political participation in governance as a means of bringing dividends to the people at the grassroots.
“The Executive Governor of Rivers State and myself took time to put the meeting, the peoples tour, town hall meeting scheduled to commence on 0ctober 11, 2012 and we are sure that you will mobilize your people to be part of it because it is the vision of this administration’’, Okocha declared.
While explaining the rationale behind the exercise, Okocha opined that it is in tandem with the vision of Governor Amaechi in ensuring transparency, accountabiltity and efficient service delivery to the people of the state and to bring governance close to those at the grassroots..
He thanked the council chairmen for their close ties with the state government while tasking them on the need to improve on security at the various local areas in order to make the town hall meetings a huge success.
Chief Okocha further appealed to the local council bosses to provide logistics support to legislative leaders who have been invited to attend their national elections coming up in Ghana soon.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Hon. Orji Ngofa thanked the Chief of Staff for the sustenance of the existing cordial relationships between the state government and the council chairmen since the inception of the Amaechi led administration.
Ngofa also expressed assurance that the various council chairmen would according to plan and ensure the people at the grassroots participate actively.
Ngofa added,’’ during your visits to the various councils, we assured you that we shall do everything possible to make it a success.’’
