…To Partner World Bank On Water, Sanitation
Governor Chibuike Amaechi, has disclosed plans to collaborate with World Bank and Britain on overhaul environmental sanitation in the state.
Amaechi made the disclosure at the weekend during a media chat with journalists in Port Harcourt.
He said the collaboration had become imperative in order to raise sanitation and waste management in the state.
The Rivers State Chief Executive opined that the state waste and sanitation status needed to be modernised to meet current challenges.
In the words of Amaechi,’’ we are talking with World Bank and British Embassy on how to find solution to our waste management”.
He further assured that ,’’ this year, I’am determined and one way to find that solution is to stop those who are collecting the money’’.
The Governor who disclosed that the State Government was spending N488million monthly on waste and sanitation management argued that the current waste management was not efficient to address the swelling city population and other industrial activities that had made waste disposal difficult.
Amaechi stressed the need for an effective waste management which includes bagging of wastes and billing residents since the current waste dumping had proved deficient and time consuming.
In the same vein, Rt. Hon Amaechi stated that talks had begun with the World Bank to resuscitate the state water scheme.
Governor Amaechi said the measure had become crucial to overhaul the state water works and beef up water provision to the citizenry.
