Oshiomhole Donates 50 Patrol Vans To Police
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State handed over 50 new patrol vans to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to assist the police in tackling criminal activities in the state.
Oshiomhole said at the ceremony in Benin, that the donation was part of the government’s contributions to reinforce the capacity of the police in its war against criminality, especially in Benin and its environs.
“Though the government had given patrol vans in the past, they were not as many as these; the purpose is to help in fighting crime because we enjoy warm relationship with the police in the state.
“Other security agencies in the state, including the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, have been working hard to ensure a crime free state, even, some have lost their lives in the course of their duties; we appreciate this,’’ he said.
Oshiomhole warned politicians not to toy with security matters, urging them to unite and fight criminals.
In his remark, Abubakar said the patrol vans would be used for the purpose of providing security and sustainability of peace in the state and the country.
He warned police officers to respect people, saying “any officer who molest or violate any person will be sanctioned.”
He urged other state governments to emulate the gesture, adding that the Federal Government needed the support of the public to combat crime.
