NESREA Set To Tackle Pollution
The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NASREA), said last Thursday that it was ready to tackle carbon and other agents of pollution caused by vehicular emission in the country.
A Deputy Director in the agency, Mrs Eunice Eze said this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
Eze disclosed that plans were under way to establish six centres for Vehicular Emission Testing.
Eze, who is also the Lagos State Coordinator of the agency, said that the move was part of the preventive measures evolved to reduce environmental pollution and ensure clean air.
“Very soon, NESREA, in collaboration with the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Federal Road Safety Corps, Ministries of Transport and Environment, as well as stakeholders, will begin the exercise.
“NESREA has procured some equipment for air quality monitoring.
She expressed optimism that when operational, vehicles would be sent to the centres for testing, adding that in the case of failure to pass the test, their owners would be told what to do or sanctioned.
She said that officials of the agency had visited factories and served their management abatement notices, warning that failure to comply would attract penalty.
