CMD Tasks Contractor On Hospital Project
Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, Delta, Dr Leo Erhunmwunse, has charged the contractor handling the emergency and accident unit of the hospital to expedite work on the project.
Erhunmwunse, who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Asaba on Sunday, said that the hospital was in a hurry to put the building to use.
He said there was the need to ensure that the project was completed by December, noting that the existing emergency unit in the hospital was inadequate for the volume of cases being handled daily.
“Our existing structure for emergency and accident cases is quite small and we are just in a hurry to have the new one ready and operational.
“We hope that the contractor should be able to finish the building before the end of the year so that we can put it to use quickly.
“When completed, the building will house various departments, including adult emergency, children emergency and daycare ward for adult and children.
“In addition, we are going to have a pharmacy unit, X-ray facility, laboratory and theater suites, which will provide easy access to road accident victims without wasting time,’’ he said.
He added: “the challenge is that the current accident and emergency ward is very small and usually when we have eight to 10 patients, the place is filled up.
“So when we have mass accidents, we cannot definitely take care of all of them because of space limitations.’’
Erhunmwunse assured members of the public that with the completion of the ongoing structure, the hospital would have enough space to accommodate more patients.
