Police Laud Youths For Crime Control
The police in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have lauded the youths in the area for complementing the efforts of law enforcement agents at combatting crime.
Speaking at a meeting with youth leaders from Ibeno communities, Mr Cletus Nwadiogbu, the Divisional Police Officer in the area, noted that the cooperation of the youths helped the police to maintain law and order in the area.
The DPO said the meeting, which was attended by officers and men from Ibeno Police Division as well as heads of other security services in the area, was convened to appreciate the support of the communities.
He reiterated the need to use dialogue to resolve conflicts and to channel perceived grievances through the authorised channels.
“Peace is better than crisis. That which you think you will get with war, you can also get it with peace and get more, because as you are getting through war from the right, it is going away through the left.
“But with peace you sit down everything will come down as a whole. So, I am happy with the relationship.”
Nwadiogbu explained that the cooperation between the youth leaders and the police led to the arrest of four pirates at the Qua Iboe oil fields and the rescue of an abducted village head in Ibeno recently.
Responding on behalf of the youth leaders, Mr Edem Ebong, the Chairman of Ibeno Youth Council, said the youth had resolved to cooperate with security agencies to safeguard their community and ensure lasting peace.
According to him, the cooperation and vigilance of the youth has ensured a massive reduction in the crime rate within the communities.
