HOS Hails Civil Servants Over Sanitation Exercise
The Head of the Gombe State Civil Service, Mr. Eli Akeme, has expressed satisfaction over the level of sanitation done by the states civil servants especially for the turning out en masse for this month’s exercise.
He said that he was impressed by what he saw when he visited ministries and parastatals as well as agencies in the state capital.
The HOS said when the exercise commenced in October the turnout was poor due to communication gap, but noted that people were mobilised for this month’s exercise.
“This time around, people were mobilised as you can see by yourself, the turnout is impressive,” he said.
Also speaking, Dr Daniel Musa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Youth and Students’ Affairs, advised government to engage the entire citizenry for the exercise and not restrict it to civil servants only.
“My advice is government should engage everybody in this exercise for two hours at least once in a month or once in two months, and should also be extended to local governments and wards.”
He expressed satisfaction with the turnout of the workers, adding that the exercise would go a long way to keep the environment clean.
Mrs Hannatu Musa, a civil servant, commended government for organising the monthly sanitation, saying with the introduction of the exercise, government offices were cleaner.
Also speaking, Malam Kaila Adamu, a civil servant, said the exercise would go a long way to keep the office environment clean.
Malam Nasiru Bunu, Director of Environment, Ministry for Water Resources, Town Planning and Environment, said the turnout was impressive compared to last month when the exercise commenced.
Alhaji Usman Bello, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Health, said people were very conscious of the need to keep their environment clean, so they complied with government’s directive.
“I am appealing to civil servants in other ministries to comply with government’s directives, come out and participate in the exercise.
According to him, this is because” cleanliness is next to godliness and healthy living means good health.”
