Institute Harps On Local Content Law
The professionals in Nigerian Institute Of Builders (NIOB) have reiterated the need for government to adopt the local content law that will open new approach which will result in the growth of the country’s building industry.
The building stakeholders who are worried over the negative effect of the influx of foreign experts into the country, stressed for Nigerian strategies to improve the building industry in the country.
In a resolution reached at the meeting of the body recently which was made available to The Tide, the group posited that the so called “big construction firms” are not giving back to the nation, by way of training the younger ones which has not in any way assisted the construction sector in terms of development.
In the resolution, the national president, Mr. Chuks Omeife, noted the need for government policies that will play a protective role over whatever construction work that will be done in the country.
The builders also sort for the organisation of an industry-wide forum where the strategies for improvement of the building environment will be adopted.
The group, however, decried the non utilisation of able bodied, youths in the construction sector, as “most of the youths who should have been artisans and technicians are now motorcycle operators and bus drivers”.
