Army Seeks Sustained Partnership With NYSC
Brig-Gen Shehu Yusuf, the Commander, 13 Brigade of Nigerian Army, Calabar, has called for sustained partnership between military personnel and the NYSC.
Yusuf made the call in Calabar last Monday when he received Mr Akinkunmi Martins, the new NYSC Coordinator for Cross River.
The brigade commander, who also called for increased security awareness among corps members, said sustaining the NYSC would accelerate national development.
He appealed to corps members to support the army in boosting security consciousness in the country.
Yusuf said the monthly joint security route march in the state was aimed at promoting cordial relationship among officers and men of various security outfits as well as attaining physical fitness.
He lauded the NYSC for its outstanding contribution, saying the scheme had touched the lives of many Nigerians and contributed to nation building.
Earlier, Martins had sought the cooperation of the army in providing security for corps members.
He said the scheme had the capacity to provide medical, paramedical and instructional services to the army.
Similarly, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, has said the Navy regarded corps members as “children of the military by default.’’
He stated this when Martins paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Calabar.
The Navy, he said, had always supported NYSC members who carried out their primary assignments in naval formations.
