‘312 Medals Won At AAG’
A total of 312 medals have so far been won by 23 of the 50 countries participating in the 10th All Africa Games in Maputo, after one week of competitions.
At the end of competitions at the weekend, 94 gold medals had been won by 12 countries with South Africa having 44.
South Africa is leading on the table with 99 medals, followed by Egypt, 22, and Tunisia,32 medals.
Algeria, Kenya, Senegal, Cameroon, and Nigeria are placed fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eight respectively, while the hosts, Mozambique, are 13th on the medals table.
Nigeria has won 20 medals, comprising three gold, eight silver and nine bronze.
The records show that 83 silver medals have so far been won by 15 countries, while 113 bronze have been won by 22 countries.
Nigeria won two gold medals in table tennis and one from badminton.
Nigeria also won a silver medal in table tennis, three silver in boxing and one in Karate.
Nigerian athletes also won a bronze each in karate, para-swimming, canoeing and table tennis, and two bronze each in boxing and swimming.
Ghana, currently placed 19th on the table, has two silver and two bronze medals and are trailed by Ethiopia, Lesotho, Sao Tome and Principe as well as Uganda which have one silver and one bronze each.
