PDP Caucus Condemns Governorship Aspirant
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ikom chapter has condemned the alleged expression of interest by the Nigeria Ambassador to Mali, Chief Sonni Abang to contest against Governor Liyel Imoke in the governorship election scheduled for next year.
Chief Sonni Abang who is currently Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mali and immediate past chairman of the PDP was recently reported to have been consulting with his political associates to inform them about his ambition to contest the governorship poll in the state.
Addressing journalists in Calabar, the caucus leader of the PDP in Ikom Local Government Area and immediate past Chief Security Adviser to Governor Imoke, Mr. Bassey Okim, said that the action of the Nigerian envoy to Mali was condemnable.
Mr. Okim and the zonal organizing secretary of the party, Mr. Fred Osim described Abang as one of the ‘boys’ of the governor who has decided to go contrary to the decision of the council caucus.
The PDP caucus, however, said that the whole central senatorial zone after evaluating the achievements of Imoke decided to give him their support, adding that even if Chief Abang decides to join another party, he would be roundly defeated.
“What he (Abang) is doing is very wrong. As a leader of the Ikom people, I have the right to give him political direction. If he goes to another party, we will defeat him. We are all strategists, he does not have a chance, he will not win”, they said.
