Okojie Urges Peace, National Unity At Ramadan
Cardinal Anthony Okogie, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos has enjoined Muslims to draw closer to God for peace and unity of the country in this Ramadan.
In a Ramadan message signed by Monsignor Gabriel Osu, Director of Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos on Tuesday, Okogie also urged Muslims to be steadfast in their religious tenets.
He said that the 30-day Ramadan fast should be a solemn period which offered Muslims the opportunity to reach out to the less privileged in the society.
He urged them to use the period to work together with other faiths towards building a just and equitable society.
“I wish to salute my Islamic brothers and sisters as they commence this year’s Ramadan fast.
“Being a period of intense fasting and prayer, I enjoin you all to draw nearer to God and pray for the peace and unity of our country Nigeria.
“I urge you to remain steadfast to the tenets of your religion which promotes peaceful and harmonious co-existence, so that you may reap from the immense spiritual reward that comes with the season”, he prayed.
Okogie also called on the Muslims to pray for those in government for divine wisdom to tackle the insecurity in the country.
He noted that no nation could achieve meaningful progress in the midst of chaos and insecurity.
