No Death Recorded In Collapsed Building – LASEMA Boss
The Managing Director of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Oke Osanyintolu, has said that no death was recorded in a building, which collapsed on Saturday in Lagos.
Osanyintolu told newsmen at the site of the building at Orosanye Street, Lagos Island, on Sunday that the agency had concluded preliminary rescue operations at the scene.
The LASEMA boss said while no one was trapped under the building, four persons rescued from the three-storey building were taken to the hospital for medical care.
He said that one of the victims sustained serious injuries, while three had minor injuries.
Mr Olumegbon Mutairu, the Secretary of the Association of Real Estate Developers of Lagos State (AREDLS), said that the association had earlier served notice to the people living in the building to vacate since July 19 but all efforts to get them leave failed.
“Thank God that no fatalities were recorded but the association still has a lot to do as regards enforcement of the law,” he said.
Mutairu said that the association had observed that most people often resisted notices advising them to leave substandard buildings.
He said that the association had complemented the government’s efforts by identifying and providing information on substandard buildings in Lagos.
It would be recalled that the house located in Central Lagos, collapsed at about 4.30 p.m on Saturday.
