The contracting firm that handled the construction of new Games Village, Adokie Amiesemeka Sports Complex, venue of the on-going 17th National Sports Festival has appraised the facilities at the Games Village and submitted that they are of international standard and the best that could be found anywhere in the world.
The firm, Delux Project Limited said the high standard of the facilities was achieved in line with the vision of the governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon. Rotimi Amaechi who mobilised them for the work and released funds at every stage of the work that funds were required for its continued execution and successful completion.
Delux project’s Senior Project Manager, Mr. Walter Dreske who spoke with The Tide in an interview at the Sports Complex located at Igwuruta-Allu, Off Airport Road, Port Harcourt, said Governor Amaechi has been wonderful in the release of funds for the project, from the onset.
“After the contract was signed, the governor mobilised us; we were mobilised by the Rivers State government and we went to work immediately. First, we started the football pitch, tennis court, hockey, basket and handball pitches (turfs) and other facilities followed suit. When these were at the foundation level in October last year, we assured the government, the MOC and LOC that came for inspection that the project would be ready for the games. Thank God, we’re able to deliver it for the festival,” he said.
Mr Dreske thanked the MOC for approving the request of the Rivers State government last year, to shift the date for the festival from November 20-30, 2010 to February 24 – March 6, and later to June 27-July 10 that the festival is taking place, to allow for the completion of the facility.
