Turkish Police Investigate EmenikeA
Nigeria striker, Emmanuel Emenike was among 40 people detained by Turkish police in a massive match fixing probe.
Also arrested was Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim as part of an investigation into match-fixing allegations in the Turkish first and second divisions.
Police are reportedly investigating Fenerbahçe’s matches against Eskisehirspor and their last game against Sivasspor that won them the title.
Sources from Turkey indicate that Emenike was arrested as part of the investigation because, while still a Karabukspor player, he pulled out of a key game between Fenerbahce and his club due to injury.
Fenerbahce won the game 1-0.
He later joined the Yellow Canaries, who won the title, at the end of the season.
But in his defence, the striker also missed the match against Fener’s title rivals Trabzonspor, a game that his team lost 3-0 to the title chasers.
Turkish media report that around 40 people, including officials and players from a number of clubs, have been detained following police raids across 15 cities.
