Proprietor Seeks Partnership On Education
The proprietor of Funke Group of Schools in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Mrs Josephine Adebite has urged the federal government to provide grants to private schools as to enhance development of education sector in the country.
Mrs Josephine Adebite made the call in a good will message during a debate competition organised recently for secondary school in Port Harcourt. Adebite told the government not to abandon private schools, but see them as partners in education growth and development.
The government should not abandon private schools, they see us as collecting school feses, but let us be honest, the fees we are collecting is not enough to drive the development of education in Nigeria.
She stressed the need for government to assist the private schools by providing grants that could be channeled appropriately to achieve the vision of private schools. She also wants government to uplift the teaching profession to avoid the lack of interest on the part of trained teachers taking up teaching appointments.
She however disagree with those who believe that the standard of education had fallen, saying that there were many ways of enlightening pupils about education in today’s practice. She advised the government to organize regular seminars, workshops and refresher trainings for teachers in addition to motivating them with handsome package to arouse their interest in teaching.
Adebite said that her desire for growth of education in the country and love for children necessitated the establishments of her school in Rivers State. She argued that for the government to realise the desired level and standard of education in the country, there is urgent need for partnership between government at all levels and private schools through various support initiatives that can bring about growth and development in the sector.
She used the opportunity to called on the parents and teachers to joins hand with the private operators in complementing the efforts of government to towards achieving the desired achievement in the education sector.
