COAS Tasks Soldiers On Security, Discipline
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, yesterday urged soldiers to be disciplined and alert in order to tackle the nation’s security challenges.
He gave the charge while addressing officers and men of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Calabar.
Ihejirika commended the soldiers for their roles during the April general elections and the recent communal crisis in the northern part of Cross River.
“Let me advise that you must work hard to improve on your present state of alertness and security awareness for yourselves and those of your wards.
“ Because of the nature of evolving challenges, the usual trainings are going to be modified in several ways.
“ These had been worked out and are going to be implemented.
“We want every soldier to concentrate. This is an era where the soldier must use his head.
“We have got some training packages to ensure that these new trainings are fully implemented,’’ he said.
He warned soldiers against engaging in inter-service rivalry, saying indiscipline would not be condoned.
“I do not want any inter-service rivalry, be it between the army and navy, or army and air force or army and the police or customs.
“I want high standard of security and high standard of discipline,’’ he added.
