FG Set To Boost Non-Oil Export
The Federal Government says it will review all policies that have constituted barriers to non-oil export.
Ms Josephine Tapgun, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, restated government’s commitment at a workshop organised by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in Lagos yesterday.
The workshop had the theme “Market Export Opportunities and Strategies for Penetrating ECOWAS Markets”.
According to her, government was already addressing many of the identified challenges such as cumbersome border processes, reduction of numerous check points to three, upgrading of infrastructure, among others.
”The present administration remains resolute and committed to ensuring that its ongoing reforms aimed at creating a vibrant private sector and stimulating growth in the economy was resolved,” she said.
She urged the exporters to adhere to the guidelines and regulations of the ETLs to boost trade.
Tapgun said that World Trade Organisation (WTO) member countries had been enjoying great benefits and that there was the need to ensure the ETLs worked for member countries to derive the maximum benefits.
She said that WTO had not only abolished tariffs and non-tariff barriers, but had also reduced other internal constraints that hindered intra-regional trade.
“In line with this, the Federal Government has continued to emphasise on the country’s economic development through a liberalised economic environment,” she said.
