RSG To Spend $5m On Mosquito Eradication
The Rivers State
Government says it is spending not less than $5million for the eradication of mosquitoes in the state.
The state commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker who said this in an interview with newsmen after a meeting with officials of the Cuban-based Labio farm in Port Harcourt, also said that the government was partnering with the ECOWAS Development Bank for the construction of a biocavicide manufacturing plant in the state.
Parker said that the malaria eradication programme was part of the Chibuike Amaechi government’s commitment towards bringing quality healthcare to the people of the state.
According to him, the biocavicide, an antimosquitoe chemical substance has been found to be environmentally friendly, pointing out that the substance which will be sprayed round the state, will eliminate mosquitoes in the state.
Meanwhile, the Cuban government has pledged its readiness to back the Rivers State Government in its efforts to eradicate malaria in the state.
The Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Elio Savon Oliva said this in an interview with newsmen shortly after a meeting at the Rivers State Ministry of Health.
Abassador Oliva said that his country has done so much in the area of healthcare services, adding that 13 diseases so far have been eradicated in his country.
He described, the efforts of RSG in malaria eradication as a welcome development and stressed the need for massive support to achieve set objectives.
