ACN Chieftain, Others Join PDP In Rivers
There are strong indications that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State may have suffered a major depletion as no fewer than 2,000 members of the party defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.
Most of the party loyalist and supporters that were interviewed claimed that their defection to the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) was as a result of lack of focus on the party’s leadership in the area.
Investigations in the area further revealed that the mass defection to PDP may not also be unconnected with a recent meeting of elders, youths and stakeholders in the local government area where the discussion centred on how the people of the area could give massive support to their son, Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, to enable him actualise his second tenure bid.
Reliable sources at the meeting explained that it was agreed also that the people from the Ikwerrelocal government area should give block vote to their son following the unprecedented development brought about by his administration in their communities.
Although before the inception of the present administration, there has been pockets of opposition, especially ACN loyalists in Ikwerre communities, they had no access to amenities.
With so many political appointments and largesse being extended by the chairman of the council Hon Kerian Wobodo, and Commissioner for Lands and Survey Hon Ezemonye-Ezekiel-Amadi a lot of die-hards opposition groups are caving in to PDP schemes.
Speaking to The Tide on the matter, former Treasurer of ACN in the local government area, Prince Ndubuisi Onuoha said most of them left the party, “after due consultations” with the people.
Prince Onnohua declared that the interest of the people was paramount to that of the party, adding, “since the creation of this local government area we have not witnessed the development we are seeing today. We believe that if we give our son a second chance he will do more”.
Currently it cannot be argued that PDP is sweeping through the opposition enclaves in the area since Governor Amaechi himself is from the place.
Prince Onnoha further stated that “all the opposition parties especially in my community Ozuaha Town have collapsed in order to join forces to make the Governor’s re-election.”
Spokesman of the concerned citizens and opinion leaders from Ozuaha Community, Barrister Cashmir Ofurum told journalists that “Ozuala people have endorsed Governor Amaechi and would massively vote for him, that is the only way we can repay him for what he has done for us.
