TIMA-RIV To Enforce Prohibition Of Trucks
The Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMA-RIV) has said it will liaise with the Rivers State Ministry of Works to enforce the prohibition of heavy duty trucks from plying the roads during the day by the end of February this year.
The Comptroller-General, Rivers State Traffic Management Authority, Nelson Jaja, dropped the hint while briefing newsmen on the Authority’s 2011 agenda, in his office in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
According to him, there is an aspect of the road tradffic law that prohibits heavy duty trucks like trailers, lorries cement trucks, low-lift trucks, etc from using the road within certain hours in the day, but are only allowed to ply and operate within the hours of 9.00 p.m. in the evening to 6.00 a.m. in the morning.
He maintained that, “we are going to liaise with the Ministry of Works to ensure that we enforce the law”. We have asked those who have genuine reason why they should use and ply the roads in the day time to go to the Ministry of Transport to obtain waivers, because very soon we will start the enforcement of the prohibition law on heavy duty trucks”, he asserted.
He urged owners of those categories of trucks and their drivers to be aware of government intention in this regard as the days of grace elapse at the end of February.
