Bomadi LG Empowers 60 Youths
The Bomadi Local Government Council in Delta trained and empowered more than 60 youths from the community in various fields of skill acquisition in 2010.
The Council’s Chairman, Mr Kalanama Penawou, told newsmen in Bomadi on Monday that the youths had also been empowered with starter pack.
He said the training and empowerment were to enable the youths who could not secure “white collar jobs” to be self employed and fend for themselves.
Penawou said that the youths were trained in hairdressing, catering services, soap making and computer programming.
He said that the effort would complement those of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the Human Capital Agenda of the Delta State Government.
The council boss, who is aspiring to represent the area in the Delta House of Assembly, added that two new health centres were established in the area.
Furthermore, he said that hospital equipment worth N6 million was procured for each of the four existing health centres to make them more functional.
Penawou noted that the gesture would enable the people in the locality to access healthcare services easily and speedily when they fall sick.
The aspirant said that if elected to represent the people of Bomadi in the forthcoming election, his area of focus would be water, more roads and electrification of communities.
“Having spent seven years as a council boss, I know more of the peoples’ problems.
“I believe I am better equipped to tackle some of the problems being faced by my people, and I want to help by bringing the state administration down to the people.
“This, I can do by sponsoring bills and moving motions that would address the problems of my people if voted to represent them in the State House of Assembly,” Penawou said.
