2011:Physically-Challenged Aspirant Tasks Colleagues On Polls
The physically challenged persons have been told not to allow their disability deter them from competing for elective positions in the 2011 general polls.
An aspirant for the Edo State House of Assembly and a physically challenged person, Mr Patrick Inobemhe made the call on Monday in Auchi in an interview with newsmen.
He advised physically challenged persons not to use their condition as an excuse not to contest political positions.
Inobemhe, who said that people with disability did not need any preferential treatment to succeed in the society, added that all they needed was to believe in their ability and God.
“Irrespective of our condition, we should aspire to develop that potential in us.
“I am not saying we do not need any assistance, but it should not be done as a policy or a national agenda.
“I do know the society have always sympathised with anybody who is physically challenged.
“My position is that a physically challenged person should not rest on the fact that he is a physically challenged person without making an effort to aspire to be someone in life.
“The physically challenged should recognise the fact that they are disabled and search within themselves how they can live a good life in the society,” he added.
He, however, advised political parties not to exclude the physically challenged persons from participating in elective positions because of their disability.
