MTN Partners Huawei To Extend Services To Villages
In order to extend telephone services to 40 million Nigerians living in 350 villages and communities in the country, MTN Nigeria has signed a partnership agreement with Huawei Technology Service Provider, to deploy its latest technology to the local areas selected from across the country.
The Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria, Mr Ahmed Faroukh said the aim of the partnership was to extend telephony services to Nigerians who have not benefited from the telecom revolution in Nigeria.
Faroukh who revealed that the project would take a period of nine months and would be completed by May, 2011 said the company deemed it fit to deploy Huawei technology to about 40 million Nigerians living in remote parts of the country and in 350 villages from the six geo-political zones of the country.
He disclosed that the technical team of MTN and Huawei would in every three months take assessment of villages and communities that needed to benefit from the laudable initiative, adding that when completed, the rural dwellers would have access to good quality service in terms of voice and data within the shortest time.
Faroukh said “we are deploy concerned about the well-being of Nigerians that have not benefited from telecommunication services and MTN Nigeria has taken up the challenge to deploy our technology through our partner, Huawei, to go to underserved areas and we will do this through our new model of service.”
The MTN boss revealed that the next phase of the rural telephony project would be structured to cover 500 villages and communities drawn from the different parts of the country, adding that the second phase of the scheme would be completed by early 2012.
He further called on the affected communities to partner with the companies for an effective rural telephony delivery.
