FRSC Tasks Motorists On Safety Culture
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Delta State has charged motorists in the area to imbibe safe motoring culture ahead of the yuletide.
Mrs Winifred Chukwurah, Commander of the Issele-Uku unit of the FRSC, gave the charge on Wednesday in Issele-Uku, Delta at a one-day sensitisation programme for motorists and motorcyclists.
She described Issele-Uku as the corridor and major gateway to the Eastern part of the country, noting that the Benin-Asaba expressway cut through it.
The commander said that road traffic crashes had been responsible for a significant number of deaths and injuries recorded every year.
She said that the crashes could no longer be accepted as “destinies of the victims”, as most times, they were originated from human errors and infraction of traffic regulations.
Chukwurah, therefore, advised participants against over-speeding, dangerous overtaking, use of second-hand tyres and riding motorcycles without crash helmets.
She appealed to road users to adhere to traffic rules and the highway code to avoid unnecessary mishaps, and them to make “Drive and Arrive Safely”, their watchword.
Earlier Mr Luka Ikpi, FRSC Commander in Delta, had said that the sensitisation programme was timely, as it would help enlighten the public, especially those at the grassroots level.
He commended Issele-Uku unit for the prompt response to crashes any time there was an alert for such.
Ikpi warned that the command would not tolerate contravention of any traffic rules or regulations.
In his contribution, Chairman, Tipper Drivers Union, Issele-Uku unit, Mr Anthony Noraolai, expressed gratitude to FRSC for the campaign.
Describing the campaign as timely, Noraolai expressed the hope that participants would abide by what they had learnt.
Participants at the programme included FRSC unit commanders in the state, members of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Special Marshals, NYSC Road Safety Club, Tipper Drivers Union and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
