RSG Launches GIRL Initiative In Public Schools
The authorities in the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs have flagged off the Growing Into Real Life (G.I.R. L) initiative in public secondary schools in the state.
The scheme, which is a brainchild of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barrister Manuela Geroge – Izunwa, was unveiled by House of Representatives member representing Abua/Odual /Ahoada-East Federal Constituency, Mrs Betty Apiafi on Tuesday at Model Girls Secondary School Rumueme.
Mrs Apiafi, while lauding the effort of the Governor Chibuike Amaechi-led administration in raising the quality of education in the state, noted that the G.I.R.L. initiative would also add value to girl-child education.
The House of Representative member, therefore, called on the girls to seize every opportunity they are offered, stressing the need for them to be focused and aspire for academic exclelnce. She observed that girls are future women leaders who need to exhibit good virtues in their attitude and activities
Earlier in her speech, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, explained that the G.I.R.L initiative was conceived to create change and help, prepare the girls for the future. She disclosed that the initiative would be launched in all girls schools in the 23 local government area in the state.
The commissioner urged the young schools girls to imbibe personal responsibility, empathy, academic excellence and respect rule since it would prepare them for future leadership roles and support change in the society.
