Airport Summit: Stakeholders Urged To Take Advantage
Ahead the 2010 edition of the Nigeria Airports Summit scheduled to hold Tuesday, May 25, at the Conference Centre of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, key stakeholders in airport business have been urged to take optimal advantage of the forthcoming summit for the repositioning of the nation’s aviation sector.
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Honourable Bethel Amadi, who gave the urge last Sunday while speaking with newsmen in Abuja, said the summit was expected to provide a forum for exchange of ideas on how best to reposition the nation’s airports for improved relevance in the global aviation market under the guide of properly articulated short, medium and long-term plans.
Amadi disclosed the theme of the summit as organized by output communications to be “Nigeria’s Airport Reforms and Globalization” adding that it would be declared open by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Mrs Fidelia Njeze and would feature presentations from distinguished international speakers and experts.
He noted that airports which is a vital element of economic development have evolved within the past few decades from more state-owned infrastructure with minimal emphasis on development to full-fledged business entities.
He said, “as a result, efforts towards airport development in different parts of the world now focus on upgrade of airports facilities to globally acceptable standards.
This current trend is critical to the positioning of airports for business competition.”
Resource persons at the summit would include the Chief Executive Officer, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Richard Aisuebeogun, Secretary General, African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Mr Nick Faduga, Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Alhaji Ibrahim Auyo, Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr Harold Demuren.
Others are the Rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Capt. Adebayo Araba, Chief Executive Officer, Revilo Aerospace Limited, Engr. Oliver Eberendu, Director of Operations, FAAN, Mr George Uriesi, CEO, Belujane Consult Limited, Mr Chris Aligbe and Barrister Jide Agbaje, Jide Agbaje and Associates.
