Sharks FCSacks Ikhana
Following the unimpressive performances of Port Harcourt in the on-going Globacom Premier League season, Rivers State Government has sacked the manager of the club, Kadiri Ikhana.
This was revealed by the chairman, Board of Trustees of Sharks Supporters Club, Amoni Biambo in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, yesterday in Port Harcourt.
According to Biambo, the sack followed an extensive meeting held by the Commissioner for Sports, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports, technical crew of Sharks as well as elders and senior members of the club.
He stated that the decision was borne out of the fact that the club’s performances this season “were relatively poor,” noting that the club had played six matches without any win.
“With due respect to Ikhana, he is a good coach, infact, one of the best coaches in the country, but as it stands today, we cannot account very well for Ikhana, considering the poor performances of the team. To play six matches without a win shows that all is not well.
“As I am speaking to you now, Kadiri Ikhana is gone, his matter is closed,” he said.
He continued that one of the problems in the club was internal wrangling among the technical crew and some support staff.
Biambo, a former chairman, Sharks Supporters Club, further revealed that one of the assistant coaches, Imama Amapakabo had been appointed the head of the technical crew.
He explained that Amapakabo had been given three matches to prove himself, saying, “if he is unable to perform well, they will know what to do next.”
“We agreed that Imama Amapakabo should be the head of the technical crew and we give him three matches to see what he can do.”
Meanwhile, coach Barnabas Chimezie has been deployed to the state’s football team for the forthcoming National Sports festival to serve as chief coach.
Biambo used the forum to advise all the coaches to work in harmony in other to achieve success.
When contacted, the media officer of the club, Mr Confidence Idaa said as at press time, he had not been briefed on the outcome of the meeting.
