PDP Reconciliation Team Arrives A’Ibom Soon
Following inconclusive nature of the peace talk between Governor Godswill Akpabio and his former boss, Obong Victor Attah, the Ike Nwachukwu-led PDP reconciliation team is expected back in Akwa Ibom State, probably November ending to tidy up.
It could be recalled that the team’s last visit could not create impact as it was unable to persuade Obong Attah to concede the state chairman of the party agreed at the national level he should produce.
What could be said to the credit of that visit is that it was able to lead governor Akpabio and entire PDP State executive to Attah’s shelter Afrique residence where the former hugged the later and had lunch together since Akpabio became the governor.
This historic handshake and brotherly hugging was later blown out of proportion by the local media which mistook it to mean that Obong Attah has accepted the truce.
The misconception was to be explained by Attah in a well studded press briefing where the strong man of Ibesikpo-Asutan, in his characteristic manner, insisted to stand on Abuja accord.
On his purported expulsion from PDP which was signed by the embattled state chairman, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk, ex-governor accepted the apology tendered by the chairman who was carried away by the exuberance of the office.
But insisted that since his election was not done according to PDP constitution he should step down and allow due process to be followed.
Even through late in the night the team later went to Ibom Hall, venue of the purported reconciliation meeting, where Ekuk’s hands were lifted by General Ike Nwachukwu as having won, Attah’s consent was not sought.
The Weekend Tide gathered reliably that late Barr. Imoh Udonwa hacked down in his prime by yet to be identified gunmen was penciled down to replace the embattled chairman by Attah.
This coincidence of events has given room for political observers to believe that the murder of the past legislator could have been politically motivated, even thought no accusing fingers were pointed at a particular person.
The police have not helped either, as there seemed to be no effort made to track down the culprits.
