RSG, Prepared To Host AASBC -Commissioner
The Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon Boma Iyaye has said that the State is prepared to host the forthcoming All Africa Senior Badminton Championship (AASBC) slated to hold in Port Harcourt, next month.
He explained that State is the of hub Sporting events, adding that the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) will not regret to host the tournament in the state.
Hon Iyaye who was represented by the Acting director Ministry of Sports, Mildred Hart , said this in a press briefing on Wednesday, organised by BFN at Hotel Presidential, in Port Harcourt.
The commissioner thanked BFN for giving the state opportunity to host Africa for the second time in two years.
Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State last year hosted African Wrestling Championship, which was rated as one of the best organised championships in the history.
” We are well prepared to host the tournament. The state is the hub of sports events in Nigeria, besides, it is not in doubt that Rivers State is also the home of hospitality ” Hon. Iyaye said.
Also speaking the President of BFN, Francis Orbih revealed that about 18 African countries have already registered for the tournament, saying that the country is fully set in all ramifications to host the tournament.
” I am happy that after 19 years the tournament has returned to Nigeria, apart from that this will be the first time the AASBC will introduce six courts in a championship.
“We want to reclaim the number one position in Africa, in this Championship we are going to host in Port Harcourt” Orbih said.
The President used the forum to thank the State government led by Chief Nyesom Wike, for its continual promotion and support of the game.
