Boat Mishap Claims Six In Andoni
Six persons are now feared dead following a boat accident which occurred along the Ebukuma, Asarama river in the Andoni Local Government Area, of Rivers State.
The six persons which included three children, two of who are of the same parents and three adults were all native of Okoloile Town in the Andoni LGA.
The Tide learnt that the victims were heading to Okoloile for burial in an outboard engine boat when the accident occurred.
According to the account, the boat conveying the victims capsized right under the Asarama bridge as soon as it took off.
The Tide also learnt that the bodies of two of the victims who were children have been recovered.
Speaking in a telephone interview with The Tide, from the community, a Traditional Ruler HEH Chief Stanley Ikunt said that the Commuity’s now in a mournful mood following the incident.
Chief Ikwut also confirmed that also formal ceremonies for the burial were suspended stressing that the coffin was just carried and lower to the grave without any formal ceremonies.
He blamed the incident on the deplorable conditions of the road linking Okoloile to the Ogoni Andoni Opobo/Nkoro Unity road, saying, if the link road had been in good shape, there would have been no need for the victims to drive about in outboard engine boats to their community.
The Chief who described the incident as a great tragedy and a big blow to the community, used the occasion to call on the state government expedite the construction of the link road to Okoloile from the Unity road.
