Late Azazi Gets State Burial ‘Morrow
The late former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoeye Azazi, who died in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa on December 15, will be given a “befitting state burial”, tomorrow, according to the burial programme released by the state government on Wednesday in Yenagoa and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson.
Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa described the late Azazi, as an Ijaw hero, who died in the service of his fatherland. “The late Gen. Azazi will be given a befitting state burial, in recognition of his enviable record of service to the state and the country,” Dickson said.
According to the burial programme, a service of songs will hold for late Azazi at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 28, at the Peace Park, in Yenagoa, while a commendation service would hold at 9.00am on Saturday, December 29, at the Peace Park, in Yenagoa, before his final interment.
The statement quotes Dickson as saying that late General Azazi’s remains would be laid to rest at the Ijaw National Heroes Park in Yenagoa.
The statement said that this was in view of his remarkable contributions to Bayelsa and Nigeria as a whole.
“This is to clearly demonstrate our respect and high regards for Gen. Owoye Azazi, as a true hero of the Ijaw nation,” Dickson said.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
