FRSC Sets Up Special Patrol Against Mobile Phone Use
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command, has set up a special patrol team to curb the menace of use of telephone while driving in the state.
Sector Command of the FRSC in Anambra, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, made the disclosure on Monday in Awka.
Kumapayi said use of telephone by motorists on the road was a common occurrence in the state in spite of having been identified as a major risk factor for crash.
He said the practice remained a major traffic offence and that violators would be punished according to the manner specified by the corps.
“The FRSC has noticed with dismay, the incessant use of phone while driving by motorists in Awka and major towns of in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, use of phone while driving has been identified as one of the major causes of road traffic crashes and an offence punishable under relevant laws in Nigeria, including the FRSC Establishment Act, 2007 and the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012 both as amended,” he said in a statement.
Kumapayi warned motorists in the state to desist from the act of using phone while driving in the interest of safety of all road users and not to be caught up by the law.
“Note that the FRSC, Anambra Command, has put in place special patrol operations to check this menace and other life threatening activities of recklessness by drivers,” he said.
