Drivers Want Speed Breakers On Industry/Harbour Road
As the drivers plying the
newly reconstructed Industry/Harbour roads expressed delight over the quality of the road network done in the area by the Rivers State Governor Chief Nyesom Wike, they are also demanding that speed breakers or bumpers be constructed at specific areas to check over speeding of some tankers, trucks and other drivers.
The drivers who made this plea in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt Monday said the present administration of Governor Wike did a solid road to alleviate their operational challenges on those roads before now, but that today it is a thing of the past.
According to him, the major confronting challenge had been over-speeding of some drivers because of the smooth network of the roads, and that they want government to fix bumpers inorder to check road crashes in the area.
One of the drivers, Chinedu Igwueibe said the road is solid and a thing of joy to drivers plying the route, unlike before when it was a death trap and vehicles hardly ply the route.
Igwueibe opined that containers from NPA, Port Harcourt Port usually fall with the truck before now, thereby causing traffic gridlock while some vehicles that do not have strong spring break have problems or tyre burst , but the story is different, stressing that with speed breakers, drivers will take precaution on the road.
Aslso speaking, Aniede Job expressed delight on Governor Wike’s zero tolerance on road rehabilitation in the state and especially the Industry/Harbor roads, and also decried over-speeding by some trucks and tanker drivers of companies operating within the area.
According to him, “The Governor has done a good job but we want the government to put bumps to checkmate over-speeding of drivers, trucks and tankers along Stella Maris School axis to the SPAR at Azekiwe Road, because it is an industrial area and any casualty will be fatal”.
In his remarks, Stephen Ujegwali, a driver from Delta State said he was impressed with the road construction by the Governor and would want him not to relent and also called for speed breakers to check over-speeding and accident on the road.
