2015: Cleric Tasks Christians On Politics
The Bishop of the
Diocese of Calabar, Anglican Communion, the Right Rev.Tunde Adeleye, has canvassed the active participation of Christians in politics.
He also urged them to vote credible candidates in the 2015 polls.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Calabar yesterday, Adeleye noted that people can only choose their leaders through an electoral process.
According to him, Christians who are interested in politics should join the fray, but with the fear of God.
“Christians should ensure that their voter cards are ready for next year; we must ensure that we all vote for candidates of our choice and our votes must count.
“Church leaders should stop being ‘unconcerned’ about politics. If it is true that politics is dirty, it should also be true that only the clean can wash it.
“When clothes are dirty, we take it to the stream to wash. It is terrible if the stream is dirty and if we say we are clean, we should be there,’’ Adeleye said.
“Our major weapon for turning things around is prayers and our voter card. The Bible commands us to pray and we must pray for Nigeria.’’
He urged leaders at all levels to harness the nation’s mineral and natural resources for the overall well-being of the citizens.
The cleric stressed the need for Nigeria to attain socio-political and economic heights as a dominant force on the continent.
