Cab Operators Suspend Protest In Delta
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta State chapter recently said that taxi drivers had suspended their protests against the increase in the daily ticket.
Chief Ifeanyi Obi, the state NURTW Chairman, told our correspondent in Asaba that the protest was suspended on Monday.
Obi said that the cab operators’ protest was sequel to the increase of the daily ticket fee of N100 to N300 by the union.
The NURTW official said that the fee had been reversed to its previous rate because he was not aware of the increase until the protest began on Monday.
Obi said that the increment was a unilateral decision from one of its branches in the state, adding that the state chapter was never contacted before effecting the change.
He said that the unnamed branch chairman had already been punished for the embarrassment the unilateral decision had caused the union in Delta.
Obi, however, warned that any member that tried to bring about disaffection among the members of the union would be dealt with.
He commended the cab operators for suspending the protest.
