Petrol Tankers Cause Hold-Up In PH
Motorists in Port
Harcourt suffered over three-hours of traffic hold-up on Ikwerre Road and Aba Road last Friday as petrol tankers blocked both sides of the roads.
The tankers numbering over fifty were in a desparate move to load product from the twin tank farms at Eagle Island in Port Harcourt as announcement of suspension of the NUPENG strike was made.
Our correspondent who covered the event said mostly affected parts of the roads were Mile 1 and UTC Junction.
Commercial bus drivers who ordinarily spend about 25 minutes from Mile III Motor Park to Lagos Bus Stop spent over two hours to cover same distance as a result of the traffic situation.
Some frustrated commuters were forced to disembark choosing to treck.
Residents of Port Harcourt have recently appealed to the Rivers State\Government to take steps towards resolving traffic difficulties caused by Petrol tanker drivers loading from the twin tank farms at Eagle Island.
They complained that the tanker drivers block both sides of the road each time they load at the farm thereby subjecting other road users to untold hardship.
The tanker drivers who do not observe traffic regulations have contributed largely to the damage on the road.
The road situation which worsens by the day is forcing other drivers to flout traffic rules as they try to dodge the large potholes created by the tanker drivers.
