Boko Haram: House of Reps To State Position Soon
A member of the House of Representatives, Dr Dawari George says the House will soon convey its position on the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Dr George who made this known during an interview with The Tide at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa expressed the members concern over the activities of Boko Hara in Abuja and parts of the north.
He said: The House of Representatives is looking into the issue and in no distant time, the leadership will convey the decision of the House”.
According to him, “we are fully in support of what President Goodluck Jonathan is doing about it,” regretting that scores of innocent Nigerians have lost their lives due to the merciless actions of Boko Haram.
Similarly, he disclosed that “those of us from Rivers State and the south-south at large are vigorously looking into the issue of fiscal federalism to ensure that every state has the opportunity to determine the use of its resources.
The lawmaker representing Akuku-Toru/Asari Toru Federal Constituency in Rivers State said that they intend to pursue the upward review of the revenue allocation formula which is the position of governors because ‘we believe that once that is done, the resources will get to the grassroots where the people will feel the “impact rather than concentrating the resources at the centre”.
As he put it, “many government agencies need overhead cost so if the money gets to the state and local government, the people will feel governance the more,” adding in view of the fact that there have been criticisms that the money allocated to states and local governments are not properly utilised, the people have he responsibility to call all their elected leaders to order if their money is well used”.
He acknowledged that Governor Chibuike Amaechi is one of those governors that have used Rivers State money well, pointing out that it is only natural that more money comes into the state to enable him do more things for the people.
In a related development, a youth leader in the Niger Delta, Mr Timi Frank has decried the incautious actions of members of Boko Haram, saying it does augur well for the progress of the country.
“Common Nigerians are dying everyday and this is a very critical issue that the Federal Government have to tackle seriously . Government should be more serious over security as any country without security is a disaster and we all must support the government to ensure that the problem is solved urgently, “ he stressed.
The youth leader called on President Jonathan to work hard alongside his security operatives to ensure peace and security so that the country can more forward, suggesting that everything possible should be done to stop the issue of Boko Haram ones and for all.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
