Boko Haram: House of Reps To State Position Soon
A member of the House of Representatives, Dr Dawari George says the House will soon convey its position on the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Dr George who made this known during an interview with The Tide at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa expressed the members concern over the activities of Boko Hara in Abuja and parts of the north.
He said: The House of Representatives is looking into the issue and in no distant time, the leadership will convey the decision of the House”.
According to him, “we are fully in support of what President Goodluck Jonathan is doing about it,” regretting that scores of innocent Nigerians have lost their lives due to the merciless actions of Boko Haram.
Similarly, he disclosed that “those of us from Rivers State and the south-south at large are vigorously looking into the issue of fiscal federalism to ensure that every state has the opportunity to determine the use of its resources.
The lawmaker representing Akuku-Toru/Asari Toru Federal Constituency in Rivers State said that they intend to pursue the upward review of the revenue allocation formula which is the position of governors because ‘we believe that once that is done, the resources will get to the grassroots where the people will feel the “impact rather than concentrating the resources at the centre”.
As he put it, “many government agencies need overhead cost so if the money gets to the state and local government, the people will feel governance the more,” adding in view of the fact that there have been criticisms that the money allocated to states and local governments are not properly utilised, the people have he responsibility to call all their elected leaders to order if their money is well used”.
He acknowledged that Governor Chibuike Amaechi is one of those governors that have used Rivers State money well, pointing out that it is only natural that more money comes into the state to enable him do more things for the people.
In a related development, a youth leader in the Niger Delta, Mr Timi Frank has decried the incautious actions of members of Boko Haram, saying it does augur well for the progress of the country.
“Common Nigerians are dying everyday and this is a very critical issue that the Federal Government have to tackle seriously . Government should be more serious over security as any country without security is a disaster and we all must support the government to ensure that the problem is solved urgently, “ he stressed.
The youth leader called on President Jonathan to work hard alongside his security operatives to ensure peace and security so that the country can more forward, suggesting that everything possible should be done to stop the issue of Boko Haram ones and for all.
