Police Rescue Abducted Victim, Arrest One In Eleme Forest
The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim who was shot thrice by his abductors after collecting the sum of 25 million naira in dollar equivalent.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at Police headquarters, Rivers State, yesterday.
Disu said the victim who is a popular hotelier was kidnapped on December 19, 2023 and allegedly shot three times before he was taken to Agbonchia forest, in Eleme Local Government Area of the State.
According to him, a total sum of # 25million naira in dollar equivalent was paid to kidnappers by the family of the victim but they refused to release him, adding that it was at that point the family informed the C41 Intelligence Unit through the victim’s wife.
He disclosed that officers of the police intelligence monitoring team had an encounter with the kidnappers on December 30, 2023 and added that the hoodlums escaped with the victim’s two vehicles.
“The kidnappers took the vehicle to panel beater and changed the colour of the vehicle.
“However, yesterday 9, January, 2024, officers of the Command went to Agbonchia forest, in Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State where the rescued victim and one of the kidnappers got injured during exchange of gun fire with the Police.”
“One AK 47, two magazines, Rx 350 and 330 vehicles were recovered from the suspects.
“These kidnappers collected their ransom in food flask, “he said.
The CP however assured that the Police were trailing other members of the gang with a view to arresting them, noting that the
injured kidnapper and the kidnapped victim were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt.
The victim whose name was not mentioned for security reason told journalists at the hospital that he saw hell at the hands of the kidnappers and
thanked the Police for rescuing him.
“You are the best and God will reward your efforts”, he said.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
