Bonny LG Boss Bags Best Performing Award
Nigeria Fashion Magazine International has conferred the best performing Local Government Area Chairman Award on the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, Dame Anengi Barasua.
Speaking on behalf of the management of the magazine, Hon Ibiteme Stephen Fubara, said the award was in recognition of the sterling performances of Dame Anengi Barasua as Executive Chairman of the LGA in her last two years in office.
According to him, the management of the Magazine is happy with the achievements of the council chairman in just two years in office, adding that with more encouragement, Dame Barasua will do even much more better.
Fubara, who also represented the Special Assistant on Youth to the Rivers State Government, praised Dame Barasua for embarking on several people-oriented projects in the area.
He said the performance of the Chairman has underscored the need for the people to give her a second chance.
Meanwhile, Dame Barasua has vowed to sustain her developmental effort in the LGA.
Barasua, who briefed the press on her achievements within the last two years in office, said within the last two years her administration has embarked on projects across the nooks and crannies of the LGA.
“On assumption of office, we realized a huge development deficit: grossly damaged, dillapidated and abandoned government infrastructure”, she stated.
She also said lawlessness was the order of the day with records of frequent sea piracy attacks, kidnapping, vandalism and other vices.
The rate of drug abuse, gangsterism and fear on the faces of well-meaning residents of Bonny, she noted, was very high, but added that two years down the lane the situation has become history.
“My team and I swiftly defined our priority areas for attention and decided to tackle security as top most.
“We took a deep reflection on the fact that security is the wheel with which development thrives. This propelled us to a peace building drive and intentional collaboration with the government security heads”, she said.
Barasua continued that her administration also purchased buses to convey school children to school, thereby reducing the burden faced by parents in transporting their children to schools .
“Today, our children are experiencing better transport system as they are conveyed to school with the free school buses.
“The traders are in a More comfortable environment to do their business in the Bonny ultra modern market”, she said.
According to her, her administration also succeeded in connecting the people of Abraham-Hart and her residents back to Bonny island with a motorable bridge, while a bridge was also constructed to connect Amariaria to Finima.
The council, she said, also constructed the Walkway extension at the Bonny Coal Beach, payment of school fees for final year students in university, remodeling of the Bonny LGA council Secretariat, procurement of brand new Hiace Buses to the Local Government Legislative Assembly, amongst others.
