RSUTH Partners UK Institutions, Others On MPOX Research
The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, has been selected as one of the four teaching hospitals in Nigeria for the Nigeria MPOX Collaboration Research in partnership with University of Oxford, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK Health Security Agency, UKaid, NCDC, among others.
The Ag. Chief Medical Director, RSUTH, Prof Chizindu Alikor, led the RSUTH team to the launch of the project at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Monday.
Also in attendance from RSUTH was the head of the hospital’s Infectious Disease Unit, Dr Victoria Gomba.
Speaking on behalf of all participating teaching hospitals in Nigeria at the event in Abuja, Alikor said that the initiative was the best collaborative research on MPOX, and assured that at the end of the synergy, the experts would deliver results that would drive healthcare delivery in that field.
Alikor expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Governor, Sir. Siminalayi Fubara, for his enormous support and commitment towards the growth and development of the Teaching Hospital.
He also commended the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, for her cooperation and leadership aimed at transforming the health sector of the State.
The CMD assured the governor and the entire Rivers people that “our hospital, which is on an upward trajectory and will sooner rather than later be placed on international platforms in innovative research, training, service delivery, etc.”
He noted the collaborations and partnerships with well-meaning individuals and organisations, stating that lasting development will require the support of all.
Also speaking, Dr Oreh, accompanied by the Ag.CMD, DPH, State Epidemiologist, assured the commitment of the Rivers State Government to support the initiative to achieve target goal.
