Team Rivers Surge On Medals Table
After a slow start to the medals race at the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, tagged, Asaba 2022, Team Rivers has began impressive haul of medals at the festival.
Though official table puts the state on two gold, four silver and 21 bronze medals, the State’s athletes as at press time have garnered confirmed 11 gold, six silver and 21 bronze medals.
Top on the State’s medal haul was the impressive performance of Team Rivers’ Adelakun Fakorede, who on Monday stormed to the men’s 100 meters gold with a time of 10.25 seconds. He beat a strong field including Edo State’s Enoch Adegoke, a 100 meter finalist at the last Olympics in Tokyo.
In addition to the State’s athletes losing opportunities in the final rounds of many events, especially, swimming, track events, Judo, Taekwondo and Wushu Kung Fu, coaches were complaining of deliberate robbery and frustration by officials at their events, which led to their loss of gold medals in events they should have won.
Meanwhile, Delta State is still comfortably perched on top of the medals table with a total of 69 gold, 33 silver and 25 bronze medals.
