Ollor Pays Bursary To Undergraduates, Postgraduates In Eleme …Kamalu, Fineman Hail Initiative

Undergraduates of Eleme have started getting the payment of N50,000 credited to their bank accounts as the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Chief Obarilomate Ollor officially flagged off the bursary payment he promised the students few months ago.
This means students of Eleme extraction in all public and private tertiary institutions who went through the verification process are now beneficiaries.
The payment also covers PhD and Masters Degree students.
While university undergraduates received N50,000 each, PhD and indigent Masters Degree students also received N500,000 and N300,000 each, respectively.
Speaking during the flag off ceremony to kick-start the payment, Ollor said; “This is not because election is around the corner, this is out of our desire to bring the dividends of democracy to our people. That doesn’t mean I am asking our students not to be part of politics, I am encouraging them to get actively involved in politics so we can choose the right leaders.
“This is a political season, we must be cautious and conscious of who we are supporting and voting because it is our ignorance that kept us where we are.”
He urged the students to make prudent use of the funds available at their disposal.
He also called on the people of Eleme to support the programmes and projects of his administration.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Isaac Kamalu, said investment in education was eternal as an educated person can stand the taste of time, enlarge available opportunities and open more grounds.
He added that as lovers of progress and development, Ollor’s action was not just a legacy project but historic.
Kamalu thanked the chairman for the laudable gesture, saying, “Chairman, thank you, we celebrate you.”
On his part, the Eleme PDP Chairman, Hon. Fineman Olungwe, said the students who were beneficiaries of the sheer magnanimity of the chairman ought to reciprocate the kind gesture by participating actively in the coming election, and by standing with the PDP on whose platform the unassailable height of democratic governance had been achieved.
Ollor had months ago, when he was receiving the report of the committee he set up to verify students for the bursary payment, promised to kick-start the payment from October, 2022.
