Okocha, Boms Hail Court’s Verdict On APC, Back Executive Order 21

The former Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha, has justified the Federal High Court judgement against the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that no normal and upright judge would uphold the APC primaries in Rivers State.
Similarly, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Barrister China Boms, also said the recent court judgement that nullified APC primaries in Rivers State was justifiable.
The two stakeholders said this in a live television programme, monitored by The Tide, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
According to Boms, the judgement was justifiable in the sense that the action of the APC leadership by denying some aspirants from contesting the primaries after they had purchased the party’s intent forms, was totally against democratic tenets.
“While I am in PDP now, I am disappointed that the same mistake APC made in 2019 when I was in the party was repeated.
“APC members should blame their leaders for whatever that might have removed the party from 2023 elections, and not blaming PDP”, Boms said.
He said that in the eyes of the law, the judge was right in his judgement.
On his part, Tony Okocha explained that the injustice perpetrated by the leadership of the Rivers APC forced him and his boss, Senator Magnus Abe to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
According to him, the leadership of the party intentionally denied giving out intent forms to all those perceived to be Magnus Abe’s supporters.
“Aspirants not believing in former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi, after paying money and obtaining bank tellers were not allowed to partake in the primaries.
“Although, I am not in that party now, but it was the action of the Rivers APC leadership that forced us out from the party.
“You cannot unlawfully exclude certain persons from exercising their franchise, just because you don’t like their faces, no. The law must take its cause, and I am assuring you that APC in Rivers will not be on the ballot again in 2023.
“For me, the judgement is justifiable’, Okocha said.
On Executive Order 21, the SDP chieftain said Governor Nyesom Wike was right, saying that the order was intended to secure public assets, and as well check clashes among political parties in Rivers State.
According to him, he had already complied with the order when he staged a rally for his foundation in Obio/Akpor, recently.
He said nothing was wrong with the decision of the governor to find ways of protecting government assets in the state, especially during electioneering season.
