Blind Football:Nigeria Beat Cote d’Ivoire In Opening Game
Nigeria’s representatives at the 2022 IBSA African Blind Football Championship holding at the Stade Municipal Elmasoria Stadium, Bouznika, Morocco, the Star Eagles of Nigeria have started their campaign on a bright note with a 1-0 victory Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in their opening game over the weekend.
Sponsored by the BINA Foundation, Star Eagles are in the same group with Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire and Mali, as well as host nation, Morocco.
According to leader of Team Nigeria’s delegation to the competition, Amobi Chikwendu, the Star Eagles’ next opponent are Egypt, after which they will confront defending champions and host country, Morocco before filing out against Mali in their last game.
Two teams will qualify from each group. Nigeria hosted the last edition of the Championship in Enugu in 2019, where the Star Eagles finished as the fourth best team.
Morocco won the championship and went ahead to represent Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, where they won a bronze medal after defeating highly rated European countries.
