Defection Of Amaechi’s Allies To PDP Excites Cookey-Gam
Impressed by the latest defection of allies of Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, the Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council, Dr. Enyiada Cookey-Gam, has expressed optimism that the defectors would bring their wealth of experience to bear in ensuring victory of the PDP in the 2023 elections.
Among those who defected from the APC are the erstwhile State Chairman of the party, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya; former State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chief Christian Finebone; and former Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Jacob.
He commended their courage, resilience and determination for taking the right decision by joining the PDP.
Speaking with journalists recently in Port Harcourt on the PDP and the road to 2023, Cookey-Gam described the defection of over 2,000 members of the APC in the state to the PDP as a remarkable victory over opposition parties and sign of total collapse of the affected groups in the state, as well as further assurance of the overwhelming success of the PDP in the state.
The council boss maintained that these numbers, in addition to those earlier received in the three senatorial districts in the state, were quite encouraging and clear indication that the PDP government in the state was faring well in every facets of life.
According to him,”It is, therefore, a thing of unending happiness to us in the PDP as we make bold to say that the party is making progress in boosting our membership and support-base in this critical period, and having a sense of acceptance by the people.
“As we again, salute the timely resoluteness of the decamping APC bigwigs and others to join the fold, we also urge those who are yet to make a U-turn and be part of the large umbrella that can accommodate all well-meaning Nigerians, by taking a cue to form part of our success story in the state”.
Cookey-Gam assured the APC decampees that they would not be intimidated, neglected or discriminated against, but would enjoy all rights and privileges as bona fide members of the party while lauding the leadership of the PDP in the state as headed by Governor Nyesom Wike for their efforts in providing quality and people-oriented governance for over seven years, advising them to sustain the tempo.
Cookey-Gam also called on the decampees and the good people of Rivers State to continue to support the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, in moving the state forward, reiterating that the PDP government would not fail to deliver on its electioneering campaign promises.
