Oshoala Nominated For Women’s Ballon D’Or Award
Five-time African Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the global prestigious 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or Award
Oshoala who plays for FC Barcelona Femini club in Spain is among the 30 female footballers nominated for the award on Friday.
The 27-year old striker is the only African player in the running for the award and she is also the only African female player to be ever nominated for the award.
Asisat alongside Fridolina Rolfö, Alexia Putellas, Lucy Bronze and Ainata Bonmatí are among the nominees for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or.
The former Liverpool and Arsenal Ladies players had some weeks ago been awarded the African Women’s Player of the Year for the fifth time, breaking her own achievement.
Her scintillating year saw her become the Pichichi winner in Spain despite not being in action for 2 months.
She sustained an injury during Nigeria’s opening game against South Africa at the 2022 WAFCON where the Super Falcons ended in fourth place.
She is the only Player to win the CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award 5 times. She won the Spanish Women’s Primera Division Golden Boot with 20 goals in 19 games despite being injured for 8 weeks.
The full list of the nominees for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or include: Selma Bacha, Fridolina Rolfo, Vivianne Miedema, Lucy Bronze, Sam Kerr, Christiane Endler, Lena Oberdorf, KadidiatouDiani, Catarina Macario and Alexia Putellas.
